Summer is here & outside is the place to be!
We’ve got what you need to decorate and host a lovely time outdoors. Whether it’s a down-home afternoon barbecue or a classy evening event, here’s some inspiration and tips on thrifting your way to a less expensive summer soiree.
We suggest starting by picking a theme, and colors.
After that – anything is game!
This is obviously a love/wedding themed arrangement. The pinks, reds, greens and oranges (literally), all create a cohesive look without having expensive matched sets of decorations. If you remember our Chalk Board Paint Post, you can easily take a Thrift Town frame, and create the cute message board seen here, for whatever the theme and occasion.
Combine all different sizes and colors of glassware (cake stands, bowls, jars) for this adorable display of desserts and flowers. Swing by our housewares section and pick out a coordinating sheet to use as a rich backdrop inside a large frame as seen above.

We love our variety of glassware, but don’t forget other elements like lanterns, seashells, or even plate stands for displaying art or small items that tie into your theme. Colorful place-mats can also round out a themed look.
Here’s an Asian themed outdoor table-scape. Look at Thrift Town for large pillows for a comfortable seat outdoors minus the chair.
Get creative with lighting options outdoors! This is such a simple concept with taper candles in clear glass bottles, but has such a bold visual impact. As with any of these ideas, mold them to fit your colors and concept for the space & event. Mix it up with different color candles or glass. Hang the bottles from wires overhead for a clustered candle chandelier… you’re outdoors, so quite literally, the sky’s the limit!
Fabrics and textures are key in creating the outdoor feel you want.
For this look, we have the fun hanging banners that are SO easy to make!
Shop around in our housewares and find whatever fabrics match your color scheme. Whether it be cloth napkins, pillow cases or an actual bolt of fabric, this adorable banner can be made of whatever you want! Cut a pattern for your shape, draw it on your fabric and cut away. It’s up to you if you want to hot glue, staple or sew your triangles to the string. But the end result is a festive splash of color overhead that really ties the space together.
Grab a couple pillows in your color scheme to add to the outdoor seating, and you’ve got yourself an affordable, adorable, entertaining space.

I love these ideas!!!! As a wedding and event planner I have found some great things, while thrifting, to use as decor. I love the idea of framing a sheet to use as a back drop. THAT will for sure go into my “creative file” to use in the very near future, I am sure.
